Counseling Services

1 on 1 Counseling

Read what some of our One-on-One Counseling clients have to say:

"I came to see Teri because I have Tourette's syndrome and I was fatigued and not feeling good. Now after 4 months of working with Teri and staying on my personalized nutrition program I feel so much better! The program is easy to follow and it now has become habit. I have so much more energy and I did not get sick this last winter (I usually get sick) even though I was exposed to many people who were sick. And my Tourette's is in mild stages and has not acted up since I began the nutrition program." Lauren Brockmeier, Salt Lake City, UT March 2013

"Teri taught me how to eat healthy and properly both for weight loss and to reverse some of my medical challenges. She inspired me to lose weight, start exercising regularly, and increase my overall level of health. I weighed 212 pounds when I first met Teri and within six weeks I had lost 17 pounds, improved my cholesterol levels, helped my digestion and began getting a full 8 hours of uninterrupted night sleep. Teri gave me several new recipes and new food ideas which I have incorporated into my daily eating. I would recommend Teri to anyone in need of her unique skills and services."
Joe Weiss, Park City

"I am very pleased with my test results and the (diet) program. I can’t thank you enough for helping me turn my health around. I am still overweight, and am increasing my exercise program in hopes that it will help me drop some pounds. But the (blood test) results speak for themselves. Quite impressive—don’t you think?"
Elaine, Salt Lake City

"I am grateful for this experience of recording my diet over the last two weeks. It has forced me to plan ahead and make smart decisions regarding what I buy and what I put in my body. The breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack ideas were an awesome help for me, because as I mentioned before, my biggest issue is that I do not know what to eat."
Liz Abulov, Northville, Michigan

"Teri's advice was very solid and very helpful. Her two simple and very easily understood items--portion control and sodium control, were for me very important and also very easy to ignore and or abuse. Since I eat out often these two items are very hard to control, but with some thought can be. I found Teri very willing to go into nutrition very deep while trying to keep it understandable. I also found Teri sincerely concerned with helping me improve my situation. Being diabetic with other associated health issues Teri was helpful in explaining the consumption of protein, phosphorus and potassium all of which I need to control. I will be visiting with her again next summer." Emmanuel, Park City

What to expect in your Nutrition Counseling Session:

All clients start with a nutrition assessment which begins with your first appointment, the initial consult. For the assessment, we ask you to complete at least 5 days of food logs and a initial consult questionnaire. In our first appointment we get to know each other and the dietitian learns about your diet, your life, your health, and your personal goals for nutrition counseling. Our counseling style is informal and relaxed, but thorough. We are trained clinicians committed to learning about your life and looking at your nutrition status and health from a holistic view.

Nutrition Programs

We offer 8 week programs. The programs are more than just a one-time visit with the registered dietitian. When you sign up for a program you are making a commitment to a new health plan. Learning, healing, new diet changes, new habits, and nutrition therapy takes time and a one-time visit is not as effective as several weeks of counseling. The programs last for 8 weeks and are more economical than hourly counseling as you receive more of the registered dietitian’s professional time and more services (for 25% less).

With the program you will get several one-on-one counseling sessions, education, a notebook, an individualized plan geared to reaching your personal nutrition goals, solving your health-related problems, and reaching optimum wellness. You also get expert guidance in behavior modification techniques to help guide you into permanent health and diet habit change.

Your teacher has professional credentials and experience; is a certified registered dietitian with a masters degree in nutrition science specializing in habit change and behavior modification; and has developed and researched several programs incorporating habit change techniques that are proven effective.

Be careful who you choose to get nutrition information from!

There are many people on the web and even in your local area advertising nutrition services that profess to be a “Nutritionist”. Often those providing nutrition information have very minimal or possibly no accredited education. Do your homework before your choose. Registered dietitians are required to meet stiff education requirements and must keep learning through an organized continuing education program to keep the RD status.

Do you have Nutrition Confusion?

Many people want to enter counseling or a nutrition program because they have nutrition confusion. For example: you read all kinds of conflicting information on the internet or in magazines and you wonder what you should eat. You know your diet has holes but you are not sure what’s missing. You are eating the wrong things and you need help figuring out how to start on a new diet path. You wonder if you are eating too much or too little carbohydrate, calories, protein. All these types of questions are addressed by a registered dietitian with experience and advanced training.

Your lifestyle, diet, digestion, metabolism, genetics, physiology, food preferences, work life, eating habits, health problems, and more are factored into your individualized nutrition and health plan. This ensures success! For example your goals may include techniques to regulate your blood sugar and hormones, lower your blood lipids and high blood pressure, solve indigestion issues, optimize metabolism, cook simple foods you like, gain muscle, fuel  for optimal athletic and sports performance, or eat a balanced diet with food allergies or intolerances.
